Scott Lowe

I am a recent graduate of Boston University where I earned my master's degree in Information Systems and an MBA degree. During my time at BU, I worked on various projects including an analysis of e-reader usability, Amazon's Kindle strategy, and the current disruptions to the publishing field.  During this time, I also completed an internship for a publishing company where I helped to identify the company's emerging ebook opportunities.  I love this industry because it ties my love of reading with my love of technology.

When I say that I love to read, it is no exaggeration. At any given point (except maybe finals week) I am reading at least one book. More tellingly, I consider dinner and a bookstore an ideal night. In fact, not long ago, I think the employees at my local bookstore thought that I may have lived there. My relationship with bookstores has changed, however, since I purchased my first Amazon Kindle. Though I still like to walk aimlessly around bookstores, I do so far less often now that I can search, browse, and buy books instantly from just about anywhere.

Since receiving my Kindle, I have gone through several e-reader transitions.  I upgraded to the Kindle 2 but have since retired that device in favor of Apple's iPad.  Each device has its strengths and weaknesses.  However, far more interesting to me is the dramatic differences in each company's ebook strategy.  This industry is evolving rapidly and these strategies provide insight into what changes will be occurring in the coming years.

I currently live in New York City and welcome emails from any visitor. You can contact me though my email: scott <at> publishingbits.com
